Helping Local Landlords Prepare for Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital for Landlords

At JDH, we’re passionate about helping our clients feel informed and confident when it comes to their finances. That’s why we were delighted to be invited to speak at a recent meeting of a local landlords’ association, where our focus was on one of the biggest upcoming changes for property owners – Making Tax Digital (MTD).

The event brought together a range of expert speakers, including representatives from Rent Smart Wales and Hafan, giving landlords the opportunity to hear from professionals across different sectors and ask questions about the changes affecting landlords.

Getting Ready for the Evening

We arrived early to make sure everything was ready before the attendees arrived.

As part of the evening, we put together a JDH welcome pack for each landlord, including:

  • A guide to the tax reliefs and expenses landlords may be able to claim.
  • JDH pens and pencils.
  • One of our new JDH stress balls – because our motto is simple: we take the stress off, so you can focus on what you do best.

We wanted everyone to leave with something practical they could refer back to long after the event had finished.

Talking About Making Tax Digital

Going into the presentation, we weren’t quite sure what to expect.

One of our biggest concerns was that we might get to the end of our talk and be met with… silence!

Thankfully, the exact opposite happened.

The room was full of thoughtful questions from landlords who wanted to understand how Making Tax Digital would affect them, what they needed to do to prepare, and how the new requirements could impact the way they keep their records.

The discussion was so engaging that we actually ran out of time.

In fact, the chairman of the association has already invited us back to continue the conversation, which we’re incredibly grateful for.

Reassuring Landlords

Once the presentations had finished, we stayed behind to chat with attendees individually.

Many landlords told us they were feeling anxious about the upcoming changes, so it was great to spend time answering questions, clearing up misconceptions and helping people feel more confident about what’s ahead.

We were so busy talking that we ended up being the last people to leave!

Events like this remind us why we love what we do. Tax legislation can feel overwhelming, but a friendly conversation can often make all the difference.

Looking Ahead

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening (and we’d be lying if we didn’t mention the fantastic buffet that was provided too!).

The response to the event has been so positive that another local landlords’ association has already been in touch to ask us to deliver a similar presentation for their members.

We’re excited to continue supporting landlords across the area as they prepare for Making Tax Digital and look forward to meeting even more property owners at future events.

If you’re a landlord and have questions about Making Tax Digital, our team is always happy to help. Get in touch with JDH to find out how we can help you prepare with confidence.
